Pratima Raghunathan, PhD, MPH, is an epidemiologist, global health specialist, second-generation Indian-American, and Rochester native. As a child, she spent many weekends playing with other Indian-American kids while first-generation adults (including her parents Dr. Y. and Sita Raghunathan) debated, planned, and ultimately launched a nonprofit organization to support the Indian community, culminating in the India Community Center of Rochester. After graduating from Fairport High School, she studied biochemistry at Yale and the University of California, San Francisco, and earned a public health degree at the University of California, Berkeley. During the past two decades of her global health career, she has led teams in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Rwanda, Guinea, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to respond to outbreaks, epidemics, and pandemics including meningococcal disease, HIV, Ebola, and COVID-19. She currently serves as a branch chief in global immunization at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
